Indonesia

Indonesia is one of the fastest-growing digital economies, with a dynamic startup scene and ambitious digital transformation goals. Its "Golden Indonesia 2045" vision, set out in the 2025-2045 National Development Plan, aims to drive sustainable economic development through digital transformation across all sectors, focusing on digital infrastructure and digital governance.

Indonesia's and Germany's economies are closely interconnected and both countries share a common interest in facilitating the digital transformation of the economy. As the largest single market in South-East Asia, it also serves as a bridge to the wider region.

Through the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue, the German Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) and the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (MCDA) cooperate on digital policy and jointly create better conditions for the digital economy.

In 2026, during the third annual meeting in Jakarta, both ministries agreed on establishing new working groups on (1) data protection and (2) AI governance. They serve as a platform for policymakers, businesses, associations, academia and other relevant stakeholders to discuss and tackle challenges together.
