Canada boasts a strong technology and innovation sector, with a particular focus on advancing AI, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity. Canada’s ICT market is estimated at around USD 146 billion in 2026. The digital transformation of the Canadian government is guided by the Government of Canada’s Digital Ambition 2024-2025, which centres on user-focused, trustworthy digital services and the responsible use of data and AI.

As G7 members, Germany and Canada cooperate on issues of digital transformation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The planned merger of Aleph Alpha and Cohere is set to create a transatlantic AI powerhouse, reflecting the strong partnership between Germany and Canada.

To further deepen cooperation on emerging technologies and digital policy, Germany and Canada established the Canada-Germany Digital Alliance. The alliance particularly promotes collaboration on AI, quantum technologies, digital sovereignty, digital infrastructure and innovation in the digital economy.

Dr. Karsten Wildberger (German Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation, BMDS) and Evan Solomon (Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation) agreed to launch the Canada-Germany Digital Alliance on 8 December 2025, in Montréal. Here is what they say about the Canadian-German partnership:

On 14 February 2026, the two countries also signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on cooperation in artificial intelligence on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The agreement supports the development of sovereign digital infrastructure, strengthens talent and innovation and makes it easier for companies to access international AI ecosystems.

In addition, Germany will serve as a partner country at ALL IN 2026, Canada’s largest AI trade fair, held in Montréal. Germany will be represented there with a country pavilion, giving innovative AI companies a platform to showcase their work. The goal is to raise the visibility of German AI expertise and foster new partnerships across business, research and policy.
