Third Annual Meeting of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue

The third Annual Meeting of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue gathered high-level government representatives, technical experts and private sector stakeholders from both countries. The primary objectives of the meeting were to evaluate the progress made, agree upon the new Work Plan (available below) and explore collaboration projects.

State Secretary Stefan Schnorr of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and Henrique Miguel, Secretary of Science and Technology for Digital Transformation at the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), co-chaired the meeting. It took place in a hybrid format at MCTI in Brasília. Both secretaries emphasised their commitment to cooperate and develop joint activities under the framework of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue.

Government-to-government deliberations

The Annual Meeting started with a government-to-government exchange. Not only BMDV and MCTI, but also other authorities from both countries met: the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the Brazilian Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services, the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Service, the Brazilian Ministry of Communications and the Brazilian National Data Protection Authority.

During this meeting, they engaged in fruitful discussions on pivotal topics such as digital government, international digital strategy, digital health, data spaces and semiconductors. They highlighted the importance of the Digital Dialogue in shaping common positions on global digital issues and implementing concrete cooperation activities together with stakeholders.

Multi-stakeholder exchange on joint cooperation activities

In the second part of the Annual Meeting, the stakeholders of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue gathered in a plenary meeting. They informed about the status of cooperation activities developed by their organisations. The representatives from academia, industry and civil society also discussed the challenges that arose during these activities and identified future cooperation opportunities. They agreed that the Digital Dialogue is an important platform for the practical implementation of joint activities.

Key topics of discussion included internet governance, data spaces, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and the twin transition. Secretaries Miguel and Schnorr expressed their gratitude to all stakeholders for their valuable input and active participation.

Looking ahead, cooperation in the coming months will encompass participation in the UN Internet Governance Forum 2023, technical exchanges on data protection as well as workshops focusing on AI regulation and digital health. We will keep you updated: Follow us on LinkedIn!
